Visual Narrative ProjectThe piece shows an angelic figure falling out of the sky, away from a sort of explosion and over a body of water. The text reads, “The greatest of heroes are those who would give everything to bring light to the darkness.”
The piece is organized with the character falling over a sea surrounded by land, and the dark sky above with rays of light emanating. The idea is that a powerful angel (Elikarr) by the name of Azrael is living on a world of light and that light is being submerged in darkness. Azrael sacrifices himself to break theough the datkness so that light can continue to shine on his world. I’d say my personal growths would be with drawing a human-like figure and drawing more realistic wings. Open Choice ProjectArtist Inspiration: Louis-François Lejeune
My project is supposed to convey a large-scale conflict similar to the scene depicted by Lejeune’s Battle of Moscow, 7th September 1812. Final Piece: The Eternal Struggle (in progress)
The piece portrays a four-part battle across the Earth, occuring in Washington D.C., Cairo, the ruins of Atlantis, and the upper atmosphere over the Pacific ocean. Nazi soldiers are invading modern-day D.C., Samael is attempting to prevent the death of Christ in Cairo at the hands of the Spartans, the sea is attempting to swallow the city of Atlantis to prevent humans from discovering the secret origins of life on Eden Prime (Earth), and the Crisca Soluna and Azrael are battling with the Devil, Kotan. The piece uses proportion to show size and distance of set pieces. It uses balance by having equal conflict in each of the scenes (Ex: Americans on the left, Nazis on the right; Cairo scene on far left, Atlantis scene on far right). Contrast is used in how in the atmosphere scene, two sources of light are striking against an infinite darkness. The D.C. scene evokes the destructive nature of humans in the form of war and a burning White House (which in itself refers to the current chaos of the Trump administration). The Cairo scene refers to the nature of men to seek to destroy and conquer that which they fail to understand, such as how the Spartans fail to comprehend the idea of Christ being the child of a singular god (countering their polytheistic religion with a monotheistic view whilst having a common man being the sin of a god). The Atlantis scene evokes the struggle between man and nature, with nature’s wrath being used to counter man’s lust for knowledge. The battle over the Pacific evokes the broader battle between Light and Darkness, good vs evil, and the war of ideals (such as the faith of angels battling against the sin of the Devil). Typography ProjectDescription: The quote is in a spiral at the center of a yellow star. There are smaller stars (some colored/others too small to tell) on the background of empty space.
Analysis: The principle (meant to be) most obvious is movement in both the quote that is meant to be read along the spiral and the wavy light of the star like lightwaves are actually like, leading the eyes to the other stars in the background. The quote-star is at the center with the other stars arranged evenly around. Interpretation: The quote “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived & lived well,” is portrayed by the large center star and other smaller stars. The larger star represents happiness and how most people see that and pay less attention to other aspects of life. The other four colored stars represent usefulness, honor, compassion, and difference. The even smaller syars represent all other aspects of life not part of the quote. Strenghts/Growths: I learned to be quicker in getting an idea and putting it on paper. I was able to get the outline of the piece done in less than two full classes, and the coloration of the main star in one. |
